Development Assistant
As a key member of the Annual Fund and overall Development and major gifts team, the Development Assistant offers clerical and administrative to help reach Annual Fund and other fundraising goals. The assistant works with key staff members in annual giving and planned giving to prepare letters, proposals and other documents that will ensure the Development office reaches its ambitious goals. Bachelor?s degree preferred. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and inter-personal skills a plus. Some professional experience in development preferred. Prefer two-three years related experience. Must be available to work special events, which may occur outside of regular work schedule as assigned. Note: A comparable combination of education, experience or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability required may qualify individuals.

Seasonal Guest Services Member
Staff and operate Guest Services concessions throughout the zoo. This includes the carousel, train, stroller and parking concessions and any other concessions added by the zoo. High school degree or equivalent preferred. Retail or customer service experience desirable. Must have a friendly, helpful, outgoing manner and be a self-starter with a professional appearance and attitude. Must be comfortable working with the public (especially children) in sometimes hectic situations. Computer knowledge a plus but not required. Some light lifting of boxed merchandise or equipment involved. Be able to work with mild cleaning supplies. May work special evening and weekend events as necessary. Must be available to work three to five days per week and flexible hours, including evening and weekend hours.

Chicago Zoological and Aquatic Animal Residency (CZAAR)
The University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine (UIUC-CVM) in conjunction with the Brookfield Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoo and the John G. Shedd Aquarium is offering a three year residency in Zoological and Aquatic Animal Medicine. The residency is approved by the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and is supervised by two Diplomats of this college. The residency is supported by a minimum eight full-time zoo, aquatic and wildlife veterinarians between all the facilities. The residency is designed to integrate experiences from all four institutions to provide clinical training that will enable the resident to become competent in exotic, zoo, aquatic and wildlife medicine and provide the necessary requirements to be eligible for certification in the American College of Zoological Medicine. The residents will primarily rotate among Brookfield Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoo and the Shedd Aquarium which are all located in and around Chicago. Each rotation will be between four to eight months and residents will spend approximately 10-14 months at each of these facilities. These world class conservation institutions offer extensive exposure to zoological and aquatic species including: megavertebrates, large carnivores, non-human primates, cetaceans, herptiles, birds and fish. Residents gain clinical experience under the direction of veterinary and management staff including handling and immobilization, providing preventative medicine, management of sick and injured animals as well as population health. Residents participate in rotations with the Wildlife and Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery Service at the College of Veterinary Medicine and are encouraged to spend some time rotating through Imaging, Anesthesiology and Large Animal Surgery. Residents are strongly encouraged to complete two graduate level courses (statistics and one elective) through the University of Illinois. Residents have the opportunity to interact and work with the University of Illinois Zoological Pathology Program which provides service to all three zoological institutions based in Chicago. Opportunities to work towards a graduate degree may be available. Applicants must hold a DVM from an AVMA accredited program and have minimally completed a one-year internship or equivalent practice experience. Licensure to practice or eligibility for licensure in Illinois is needed to apply with full licensure required before beginning the residency. Retail Sales Associate (Seasonal)
To work as a cashier, assist in restocking the sales floor, assist in checking new merchandise in, greet the guests as they enter the store and assist them with any questions they may have. High School degree (or equivalent). Knowledge of customer service and retail operations. Skill in effectively resolving difficult customer service. Skill in presenting a pleasant, service-oriented persona, able to deal persuasively with zoo guests, customers and vendors. Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form. Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions. Ability to represent the Zoo in a professional manner at all times. Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse groups. Tactful and mature. Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers, zoo visitors and general public.

Animal Keeper- Small Mammal Reptile House
Under general supervision, participates in all aspects of daily animal care and maintenance of particular exhibits. Particular emphasis on informal educational exchange with zoo guests. Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) is required. A Bachelor?s degree in Biological Sciences (i.e., Biology, Zoology, Ecology) or a closely related discipline is preferred. Successful candidate likely to have previous experience with represented taxa, and knowledge of general husbandry practices and methods. Previous experience in routine animal husbandry as in a zoo, aquarium or closely related activity is also desirable. Comparable education and experience may also qualify and individual. Ability to follow oral and written direction. Effective oral and written communication skills. Valid driver?s license with good driving record is desirable.

Communications Intern
As a key member of the Communications & Public Affairs team, the Communications Intern offers clerical and administrative to help reach the department’s goals and objectives. The assistant works with key staff members in the department to prepare materials and assist in operations that will ensure the office reaches its goals. This is an unpaid internship.

Manager, Public Programs
Responsible for the management of all activities of the Public Programs team, including youth, family and adult programs.

Director, Public Programs and Guest Engagement
Directs all aspects related to the planning, implementation and evaluation of Public Programs and Guest Engagement initiatives.

Director, Student and Teacher Programs

Population Biologist
The Population Biologist is a full-time, 3 year position funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The population biologist provides scientific and logistical assistance to the cooperative conservation and breeding programs of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Controller
Directs the financial activities of the organization and prepares financial analyses of zoo operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. Responsible for providing the organization and its management with the appropriate and necessary financial and operating information. Through subordinate staff, ensures appropriate delivery of administrative services.

Project Coordinator
The Project Coordinator is a full-time, 3 year position funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant is focused on studying and evaluating the population management system used to manage zoo and aquarium programs. The Assistant will work with a project team and will be responsible for running the day-to-day logistics of the research project, including assisting in all aspects of project design, administrative requirements, and scientific and managerial output (results, publications, presentations).
